Introduction to Hand Evaluation and Treatment Concepts

Injuries or conditions that impair the function of the hand and upper extremity can have significant negative effects on the individual. As such, it is critical that these individuals receive the proper evaluation and treatment to return to the highest level of function possible. Work with the hand and upper extremity is often referred to as hand therapy and requires the hand therapist, which can be an occupational therapist (OT) or physical therapist (PT), to have advanced study and experience. A Certified Hand Therapist is an occupational or physical therapist with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy and passes a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. This course introduces the concepts involved in hand evaluation and treatment. In this course, you will learn how to evaluate hand function and treatment strategies for those with impaired function.
