Interventions for Neck Pain

Low back and neck pain reports are frequent in the average US adult. According to a survey conducted in 2002, 1 in 4 US adults reported low back pain and 14% reported neck pain in the previous 3 months4. Low back and neck pain are costly resulting in billions of dollars being spent each year for their management6. Military models have demonstrated that significant cost savings can be achieved from early interventions using physical therapy that is guideline based in individuals suffering from low back pain2. Physical therapists and other rehabilitation practitioners (eg, occupational therapists, certified athletic trainers, and personal trainers) are frequently utilized to assist in providing treatment of these conditions5. In efforts to provide physical therapists and other health care providers with the latest in evidence-based medicine, the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopaedic’s Section has developed practice guidelines for both low back3 and neck pain1. The purpose of this webinar is to educate health care professionals on these guidelines for low back and neck pain. This presentation will discuss the guidelines for diagnosis, examination and evidence based guidelines for interventions/treatments of neck pain. This is an intermediate course appropriate for physical therapists, occupational therapists, certified athletic trainers, personal trainers, and anyone interested in learning more about these guidelines.
